MYK Method

“Posture is the outward expression of the nervous system.” Our body is designed to use the least amount of energy required for standing, walking, and all other actions. Perfect posture can be defined as each joint resting in “neutral”. To examine our “axial posture”, imagine a plumb line hanging from the ceiling. Stand with this plumb line to your side and have someone take a picture. You should observe that the ear, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle are all lined up. If you move to stand with the plumb line in front of your nose and take a second picture you will see your nose, breastbone and navel in line, and the plumb line should end midway between your feet. In addition to “Y-Axis” alignment, we are looking for rotational alignment and peripheral joint relationships to identify the root cause of pain someone is experiencing. Pain is frequently caused by muscle imbalances when “non-postural” muscles are called on to aid the body in maintaining posture against the forces of gravity.

Once identified, we treat the “culprit” spinal level nerve using the Myokinesthetic (MYK) treatment technique. This technique affects the spinal level nerve by working on the muscles “powered” by that nerve root pathway. Muscles that require strengthening are identified and exercises are taught to restore normal muscle balance to maintain a neutral posture. With the consistent performance of the strengthening exercises and repetitive performance of the MYK treatment, pain can be eliminated, thus restoring normal range of motion, strength, and function to the affected body part and overall movement processes.
